Description
It’s rare to find a book that can both be described as delightful and heart-wrenching, life-giving and heavy, but Maniac Magee is. Maniac is a truly engaging character. Throughout the story, readers watch him reach out to others with courage, kindness, and an ability to see past skin color and actions and reach into the hearts of others. This book is a fairly quick read, with short chapters, making it ideal for sneaking in reading time even in busy seasons. The book length does not correlate to lack of depth; Maniac engages with many hurting people and leaves no one unchanged. This is a beautiful story of community, belonging, and reconciliation.
Framed feels very much like a “Young Sherlock” read and is a solid choice for boys or girls, appealing to a broad age range (Elementary through Middle School). If you have kids who like a good mystery, Framed is an excellent choice. Florian has a great relationship with his parents and is a caring friend. The book is quite humorous and definitely an entertaining read. As adults, reading on our own, it was a fun one-day read.
