Description
The phrase “A timeless classic” may be overused, but it certainly fits here. Burnett’s rich imagery transports her readers from the intense heat and spices of India to the lonely, windswept Yorkshire moors, and then delightfully plants them in the slowly unfolding sights and smells of the secret garden. Even though two of her main characters are thoroughly spoiled and rather horrid children, Burnett brings them into contact with salt-of-the-earth Yorkshire folk, which adds tremendous humor to the book. It’s a beautiful story of the transforming power of beauty and friendship.
